HEAP 2026–27 at a glance

Regular HEAP

Opens Nov 2, 2026.
Oil base benefit: $990.

Extra amounts

+$61 if household income is at or below 130% of the poverty level.
+$35 if someone in the home is 60+, under 6, or permanently disabled.

Emergency HEAP

Opens Jan 4, 2027, for households that are out of oil or about to run out.

Amounts and dates are from New York State's October 16, 2026 announcement. The state decides who is eligible and how much each household gets. We don't.

Who qualifies?

Eligibility depends on your household size and gross income. New York State's example: a family of four can earn up to $6,852 a month (about $82,230 a year) and still qualify. Benefits are first-come, first-served, so apply early.

  • Many households get HEAP automatically — for example, if you get SNAP or Public Assistance. Check before you apply again.
  • You can get one Regular HEAP benefit per season, plus Emergency HEAP if you're out of oil or about to run out (from Jan 4, 2027).
  • Last season about 71,000 Long Island households got HEAP, so plenty of your neighbors use it.

What to have ready

Your county will tell you exactly what it needs. Usually that's ID and Social Security numbers for the household, proof of income for everyone in the home, proof of address, and a recent heating oil bill or delivery slip. Call us and we'll give you a copy of your delivery history if you need one.
